A taster of Tatham House
It’s always a pleasure to be invited to look around a new large house and this one was a particularly exciting prospect for the team at Big House.
Sleeping 20 in 10 en-suite rooms, let’s call it the “Mystery House” for now. It’s available for hire from Easter 2018 exclusively through The Big House Company and we are thrilled to be representing & managing this delightful property in Somerset.
It’s located in rural Somerset, within a 10-minute drive of Taunton, not far from a good size village for pubs, Sunday morning papers & extra provisions. There is a rather fine steam railway line nearby; now, there’s a clue?! Currently undergoing a complete renovation, the house dates back to Georgian times and formed part of a working farm that has been in the same family many generations.
The Georgian style is very handsome & welcoming and as we approached, the site was a hive of activity with a lot of high quality workmanship in progress, overseen by Colin, who showed us around.
Party spaces
The ground floor has been reconfigured to give a great flow of space for big groups and the sense of light is superb. All the reception rooms overlook the gardens, which look perfect for ball games, BBQ’s and general lounging about in! The kitchen leads onto the dining area with doors opening to the garden if you fancy your coffee and croissant alfresco. The drawing room has 2 magnificent floor to ceiling windows, a perfect room for sofa snuggling, laughter with friends and pre dinner drinks.
Relaxing spaces
Heading upstairs; yes, even a new oak staircase – it’s having a complete revamp and a remodelled floorplan is giving every bedroom and en-suite a very comfortable, spacious feel. Although most of the bedrooms will be upstairs, there will also be a ground floor bedroom & en-suite (we believe this will be completely disabled friendly – but please check with us if this is vital to you).
Fun time spaces
Now downstairs, the cellar is a place for fun! The cinema room will provide a perfect cosy relaxed space; imagine, large screen, comfy seating, popcorn, big match or movie, some beers? There will be a pool table, table tennis and table football. But it doesn’t stop here. Step outside, into the walled courtyard – once a thriving vegetable garden and now an ideal sun trap with views over the Quantocks. Turning around 180° and the low-slung barn adjacent to the house will house an indoor swimming pool, gym equipment and sauna. This area will be the hub of outdoor activity and particularly if there are children in your group, we doubt you’ll be able to drag them away!
We think this house is going to be fantastic for groups, families, friends, celebrating or just wanting to have a great time together with lovely accommodation and lots of onsite entertainment. A house that’s got the lot!
